Project Vision

San Francisco, CA

The Transbay Howard Streetscape Improvement Project was developed to improve traffic safety, public space, and the overall travel experience along Howard Street between 4th Street and The Embarcadero. Building on earlier quick-build safety improvements, the project will create permanent streetscape upgrades that support people walking, biking, driving, taking transit, and accessing nearby destinations such as Moscone Center, the Transbay Terminal, and the Ferry Building. Improvements include protected bikeway infrastructure, pedestrian safety enhancements, greening, lighting, repaving, transit improvements, and changes to curbside access designed to create a safer, more connected, and more welcoming corridor.

JBR Partners, Inc. facilitated the kickoff partnering session for the Transbay Howard Streetscape Improvement Project on March 12, 2026, bringing together project owners, contractors, consultants, and key stakeholders to establish a shared vision for project success. The session focused on aligning project objectives, defining team expectations, identifying potential risks, and developing communication strategies to support collaboration throughout construction. Particular emphasis was placed on stakeholder coordination, public safety, traffic management, utility coordination, and minimizing impacts to businesses, residents, and visitors along the corridor. By fostering open dialogue and early relationship-building, the partnering process established a strong foundation for proactive issue resolution, accountability, and effective coordination as the project moves forward. A follow-up partnering session was conducted in June 2026 to review project progress, address emerging challenges, and reinforce team commitments.
